How to use a paper tracker

  1. Pick three to six habits. Each one should be a clear yes or no by bedtime: "Walk 8,000 steps", not "Move more". There is room for eight, but a short list is the one you keep. The Winter Arc rule ideas page has examples.
  2. Put it where you will see it. The fridge, the bathroom mirror, the wall above your desk. A sheet in a drawer gets forgotten in about a week.
  3. Mark it every evening. Keep a pen next to it. Fill the box when you kept the habit, draw a diagonal line when you only did your hard-day minimum, and leave it empty when you missed.
  4. Never miss twice. One empty box is a bad day. Two in a row is how arcs end. When you see an empty box from yesterday, today's box is the one that matters.
  5. Look back every 30 days. Each block on the sheet is 30 days. At the end of a block, find the row with the most empty boxes and make that habit smaller rather than harder.

Why a chart helps

Memory is generous. Ask yourself on a Sunday how the week went and it will feel better than it was. A chart has no opinion: the boxes are filled or they are not, and the gaps show up as clearly as the streaks.

A visible run of filled boxes also becomes something you do not want to break. That is the whole trick behind the "don't break the chain" idea, and it works best on paper you pass every day. Missing a day leaves a gap you can see, which is uncomfortable in a useful way.

Finally, filling in a box takes two seconds and needs no phone. For anyone who opens an app to log a habit and ends up scrolling for twenty minutes, that matters.

Paper, the online tracker and your wallpaper

Each tool does a different job, so they work well together:

If logging twice feels like a chore, pick one as the real record and treat the other as a reminder. The paper sheet on its own is enough.

Printing tips

FAQ

Is the Winter Arc tracker sheet free?

Yes. There is no account, no email and no watermark. Type your habits, print the sheet or save it as a PDF, and make as many versions as you like.

How do I save the tracker sheet as a PDF?

Tap "Print or save as PDF", then choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. On an iPhone, tap Share in the print preview and save to Files. On Android, pick "Save as PDF" at the top of the print screen.

Does a 90-day sheet fit on one page?

Yes. The whole 90-day time table fits on one A4 or Letter page in portrait, as three blocks of 30 days, with up to 8 habits. A 120-day sheet prints on two pages.

Can I print a 30-day habit tracker instead?

Yes. Set the length to 30 days for a monthly habit tracker. You can also pick 60, 75, 90 or 120 days.

Does the paper sheet sync with the online tracker?

No. Paper is paper. The online tracker keeps its own check-ins in your browser. Use whichever you will open every evening, or both if logging twice does not feel like a chore.

Is anything I type here saved or uploaded?

No. The sheet is drawn in your browser and your habits are not saved or sent anywhere. If you already made a contract on this site, its rules are read from your browser to fill in the form.

Make it a contract

A sheet records what you do. A signed contract says what you promised. The Winter Arc contract generator turns the same habits into a one-page contract with your name and dates, prints it together with this tracker sheet, and sets up the online tracker in the same step. Not sure which date to circle first? The Winter Arc start dates page shows the usual window and how to start late.
